The Zone 6 men’s youth and junior tournaments of the IHF Trophy Africa will take place in Harare, Zimbabwe from 18 to 22 October 2022.
The event serves as qualification event for the Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy Africa.

Continue readingThe Karen Slowe Cup’s second edition, which was organized by the Slowe family and the Greater Accra Handball Association, was held from August 15 to August 20, 2022. The competition was first held in 2018 and was designed to occur every four years.
To promote the civilian clubs and test the viability of the long-term proposal to organize it every four years, only the civilian clubs in Greater Accra participated in the inaugural edition. Based on the results, the competition was expanded to include the services teams this year, exactly 4 years after it first started, to allow for the participation of additional teams.
This time, there were 12 teams total—6 service teams and 6 clubs for the general public. Included in this group are the Ghana Police, Ghana Prisons, Fire Service, Ghana Army, Ghana Navy, Ghana Airforce, El-Wak Wings, Great Fingers, Cantonment Youth, Legonite, and Kaneshie Royals.
Twelve clubs were divided into four in the men’s division, while eight clubs were divided into two in the women’s division.
In the men’s division, two teams from each group advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition from Day 1 to Day 4, while in the women’s division, the top two clubs from each group advanced directly to the semifinals.
All of the guests, including the Slowe family, who arrived in Ghana the night before the opening ceremony, were present at the competition’s opening ceremony on day two. They were cordially welcomed into the nation by some handball aficionados who received them at the Kotoka International Airport.
Seeing all these famous people grace the event was a thrilling experience.
The newly elected HAG executives, led by the president, Hon. Nii Lante Bannerman, the GAHA executives, Nana Agyeman Opamboum 1, the patron of GAHA, and some senior officers of the various security services were notable individuals.
The following groups—Ghana Army, Kaneshie Royals, Fire Service, Ghana Airforce, Ghana Police, Great Fingers, Ghana Prisons, and Cantonment Youth—have qualified for the quarterfinals. The following scorelines:
The police team advanced to the finals in both divisions on day 5 of the competition, but its rivals, prisoners, were able to secure a spot in the finals in the women’s division by defeating Army ladies and losing to Firemen in the men’s division to play the third and fourth place.
The principal organizer, Allister Slowe, made a special statement about an increase in prize money before the commencement of the semifinals.
¢10,000.00 for the first-placed team, ¢5,000.00 for the runner-up. The team that finished third: ¢2,000.
The 3rd and 4th place matches were played early in the morning on Day 6, which also happened to be the last day of the competition. Before the finals began, a curtain-raiser match was played between the veterans and the Cantonment Youth lads.
Army women defeated Navy women by a score of 18 to 12 goals to win bronze in the competition, along with medals and the third-place cash prize of ¢2,000.00.
Prisons defeated Army in the men’s third and fourth game by a narrow score of 27-28 goals, earning them a cash award and third-place medals.
In the women’s final, Policewomen competed against their rival Prisons, but Prisons women outperformed them and doubled their trophy haul this year.
By a score of 30-28, Prisons defeated Police in the final. The best female player and best goalie of the competition were selected as two members of the Prisons team. To that end, they had a cash award and a trophy plague.
The current knockout champions, Extinguishers, secured a spot against Police in the championship game. To win their first trophy of the year, the Policemen brilliantly defeated team Fire by a score of 29-28 goals.
The tournament’s top players and goalkeepers were decided to be Police’s Gerald Folley and Bernard Ankrah Twumasi.
The fair play team trophy was given to Cantonment Youth. All of the civil clubs that took part in the competition received certificates and an unknown sum.
The Slowe family was welcomed to Ghana for the Karen Slowe Cup by some handball enthusiasts who were at the Kotoka International Airport to greet them yesterday evening.
Continue readingDelegates selected across the country for the upcoming Handball Association of Ghana National elections have declared their total confidence in the former GAHA Chairman, Paul Kofi Yesu Dadzie as the next president of HAG.
The former handball practitioner, astute sports administrator and assistant headmaster of Accra Academy SHS, Mr. Paul Kofi Yesu Dadzie is currently vying for chairmanship position of the association.
Under confidentiality, some delegates reiterated the need for the former GAHA Chairman to occupy the chairmanship position.
They stated that, his immersed contributions to handball in the country comes second to none, hence, deserves the support.
“He has played vital roles in the development and promotion of the sport both during his hay days as player. I am not suprised about his tremendous improvement with the game,”
“Kofi, did very well with the regional association, he made sure the region was active and we all saw the impact at the end.
“Even regional clubs had the opportunity to travel out of the country for competitions, this will tell you he has the connections to push the game forward,” one of the delegates said.
“If you look at his profile under handball, he has achieved a lot and I can stand on authority and say that he has the ability to change the dying face of Ghana handball,” one of them stated.
“During his tenure as regional chairman, handball became visible in the region and across the country. The media were always talking about handball on their various channels, the stories traveled far and near. That was why he and the past executives were able to secure some sponsors, so what shows he can’t do same at the National level. Let’s vote for him, we know him, he is our won,” one stressed.
“We are confident in Paul Kofi Yesu Dadzie because we have worked with him across various fields of the sport. He is a very determined person, a team player and open leader during his tenure as chairman of the region, so we are solidly behind him,” others also declared.
The HAG elections has been fixed for Saturday, 13th August, 2022 at the AMA office.
The Handball Association of Ghana, (HAG) is set to hold the 2nd memorial walk / match in honor of the late acting president, Nortey Dowuona.
The late Nortey Dowuona who passed away in December last year played vital roles in the development of the game in the country as well as the continent as whole.
The memorial event which has been slated for Saturday, 29th January, 2022 would begin at the Prisons complex at Cantonment, through Osu Oxford street and finally to the Accra sports stadium.
A special memorial match which would feature two selected sides of National team players, “Possibles vs Probables” has also been fixed to come off at the Accra sports stadium, Handball court immediately after the walk.
The association in a letter dated Tuesday, 25th January, 2022 signed by the General Secretary, Mr. Charles Amofa and sighted by this portal urged all stakeholders, Handball enthusiasts and the general public to grace the occasion in their numbers.

Former Executives of the Greater Accra Handball Association, GAHA on Thursday, 30th December, 2021 paid a special visit to the family of the late Acting Handball Association of Ghana president Nortey Dowuona.
The high delegation visit was to commiserate with the family over the loss of their beloved who passed away some few days ago in Accra after a short ailment.
The late Nortey Dowuona played a vital role in the development of handball in the country. He was very enthusiastic on the progress of the game.
As acting national president, he represented the nation at all internationally recognized engagements by the International Handball Federation, IHF and the Confédération of African Hanbdall, CAHB.
He was a beacon and left an exemplary legacy at every West Africa zone (III) games as well as Ecowas games.
The delegation was led by former GAHA president, Mr. Paul Kofi Yesu.
He used the opportunity to sympathize with the family and urged them to stay strong and not to loss hope. He assured the families of their support.
A book of condolences was signed by Mr. Paul Kofi Yesu Dadzie on behalf of the former Executives.
He eulogized the late Nortey Dowuona as a strong pillar in the Handball fraternity.
Among the delegation were former General secretary, Eric Sena Adjeyi, E.S Sabutey, RSD Technical Director, Gifty Okai, former executive member, and Harrison Duodoo, IT expert.
The University of Ghana Handball Team is now known for its consistent defeats in the Greater Accra Handball League, dubbed GAHLCA LEAGUE 2021, having suffered eight defeats in nine games.

The Algerian national team has booked its ticket for the 27th IHF Handball World Championship- Egypt 2021 after winning the bronze medal in the 2020 African Nations Cup which was held in Tunisia. They had also made 14 appearances in the World Championship where their best achievement was being ranked in the 13th place in the 2001 edition at France.
Algeria’s French coach Alain Portes, who took over the responsibility of the team in 2019, seeks to show the North African team in the best possible way, after their six-year absence from participating in the World Championship.
Portes talked to Egypt 2021 official website: “Of course, the next world championship will witness great competition, and during the past six years, Algeria did not qualify for the last two tournaments, so we want to show our best performance against the strong teams and we are happy with this opportunity.”
“The draw for the tournament is definitely difficult and it is clear that Portugal and Iceland are among the strongest teams , so we will fight against Morocco in the first match and then we will try to make a surprise in front of our other opponents.” Portes added
On his opinion of the current level of his team before competing next January, the Algerian coach said: “We acheived the bronze medal in the last African Nations Cup and that was good and we wanted to complete the team building in the last period, but the Corona pandemic crisis made us waste a lot of time and I am not sure were we are today. “
The French coach has a clear strategy in the World Championship that he spoke of: “I think I will rely on the experienced players by connecting them to young players with high potentials and who will learn a lot in this tournament,” Portes explained.
Regarding the preparations and the preparatory program several months before the world championship, he said: “We will start training with local players in Algeria and then play international friendly matches abroad in Tunisia and Poland, and during the international break we will gather professional players and prepare well in order to increase the team’s chemistry and harmony when they play together “
Portes has a clear goal in the Egypt 2021 World Championship, as he revealed: “We will try to qualify for the second round, and if this is not possible we will strive to get the best possible ranking place, so let’s not forget that Algeria finished last in its 2015 appearance”.
On Egypt’s organisation of the next tournament with the participation of 32 teams for the first time in the history in light of the emerging Corona virus crisis, the French coach praised the preparations and the organisational aspect and said: “I trust the Egyptians as they know how to organise major competitions. I had an experience with the Tunisian national team in the 2010 edition in Egypt and it was ideal, I know that the Egyptians will organise the upcoming World Championship seriously and professionally.” He admitted.
Alain Portes has a message for the fans of Algeria before the World Championship, where he commented: “We will prepare ourselves as best as we can to give Algeria a positive image in front of the world, The players are very enthusiastic and know their big responsibility towards the Algerian people , so let us trust and support them.” He concluded.
